Scalebreakers wanted!

This is a TTRPG, with a simple d6 resolution mechanic, that focuses entirely on conducting reconnaissance, gearing up, and attempting to survive lethal combat against a dragon as a one-shot or series of loosely connected hunts. This game is for those groups that want to skip the long campaign to the dragon, and simply jump into the fray!

How to Hunt Dragons

Scalebreakers hunt dragons, which is not an easy endeavor. Despite the many tales of danger and death that befall scalebreakers, or because of the glory that is found after a successful hunt, there is no shortage of scalebreakers willing to test their mettle against the might of these formidable foes.

Players take on the roles of scalebreakers, specialized dragon hunters, taking up arms and forming a party to track down and vanquish a dragon, generated and controlled by a Dragon Master (DM).  

Prior to the start of the hunt, the DM will generate a dragon and its lair by selecting its species, breath weapon, and characteristics. 

Once the hunt is on, scalebreakers need to conduct reconnaissance to discern what deadly combination awaits them and acquire knowledge, represented in this game as a shared dice pool of d6s that allow for additional actions and more advantageous rolls during the actual combat. 

Scalebreakers are created and defined by the gear they select:

1. Weapon types and adjustments made

2. Runes that grant arcane enhancements in the heat of battle

3. Equipment and consumables

During combat, scalebreakers act in their desired order, maintaining the initiative on their side, so long as they continue to effectively hit and combat the dragon. If given the opportunity from a mistimed strike or awry shot, the dragon will immediately seize the initiative and wreck havoc on its new prey! This back and forth of initiative forces scalebreakers to stay proactive and engaged throughout the entire fight, as they may be cause of or target of the dragon's opportunity to strike back!

If successful, as with any good hunt, the scalebreakers may retrieve species-unique trophies that serve as both augments to their existing gear and as cultural symbols of successful kills throughout their career, however long or short it may be.

But why?

This project started when my wife complained there weren't a lot of dragons in our Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. And what started as a simple idea in my head has turned into a passion project. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I had making it from start to finish. 

This is my first "big" project. All layout, writing, and editing is 100% human, with no AI and all art are public domain pieces credited in the book.
